The Presidential Cycling Tour of Turkey (Tur, for short) is renowned for its sprint finishes, and the announcement by Etixx - Quick-Step this afternoon that Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen will be taking part in the 2015 edition (26 April - 3 May) means that the tradition is secure for yet another year. The two great Etixx - Quick-Step riders will join a sprint field which is also expected to include Germany's André Greipel, the Italians Sacha Modolo, Sonny Colbrelli and Davide Appollonio, the Belgian Jelle Wallays, and the Colombian former world points champion Edwin Avila, to name just a few.

Mark Cavendish and Tom Boonen will start new phases of the 2015 cycling season in Turkey.

With 6 wins already this season (a stage in Tour de San Luis, two stage wins and the overall classification at the Dubai Tour, and wins in Clásica de Almeria and Kuurne-Bruxelles-Kuurne), Mark Cavendish’s route to Le Tour de France will continue along the same itinerary as last year, when he rode his first TUR to great success, winning stages 1 (Alanya-Alanya), 2 (Alanya - Kemer), 4 (Fethiye - Marmaris) and 8 (Istanbul - Istanbul), as well as the Green Jersey of the points classification. He will then participate in the Amgen Tour of California, the Tour de Suisse, and the British National Road Championships before starting Le Tour de France.

Tom Boonen, who has been recovering from surgery on a shoulder injury sustained on 9 March in a fall during stage 1 of Paris-Nice, will return to racing at the Presidential Tour of Turkey, where he will work on condition in view of the Giro d'Italia.

Etixx - Quick-Step Sport & Development Manager Rolf Aldag said: “After his crash Tom worked really hard to come back as quickly as possible. This just shows how great disappointment like being forced to miss the Classics can become a wonderful opportunity. Riding both the Tour of Turkey and the Giro d’Italia for the first time in his career will be a new challenge for Tom. He will play an important role in our team strategy. His experience will be invaluable, and we are delighted that Tom can be part of the team in such an important race. As for his calendar after the Giro, we will see how his situation evolves in the upcoming races and reshape his calendar according to his performance and his feelings.
