Gomez sets the record

Javier Gomez takes 5th ITU Olympic World Championship title

Gomez sets the record

After nine World Triathlon Series (WTS) races this year, the Grand Finale was hosted in downtown Chicago (US) in Grant Park with the world’s top ITU male and female triathletes.

The men’s race was a battle between Mario Mola and Javier Gomez. Despite his second place finish, Gomez’s season-long consistency would give him the World title, his fifth since 2008 (2010, 2013, 2014 & 2015). The extremely talented Spaniard has became the most successful athlete in the ITU World Championship history

Another great performance this weekend was delivered by Richard Murray (RSA), who rounded out the podium and is now 4th in the world rankings.

Both Gomez and Murray were riding Sram Force 1. Sram1xTM is a simpler, quieter and more secure drivetrain that offers benefits for both pro and amateur riders. For the super-flat WTS Chicago course, Gomez and Murray chose to race with a 52-tooth chainring and an 11-26 cassette.
